About

Hi, I’m Maddie!

Artist | Educator | Arts Administrator

Hi, I’m Maddie! I am an artist, arts administrator, and educator currently living and working in Lexington, KY. I started taking art classes in kindergarten in my hometown of Louisville, KY, and have known that the arts would be at the center of my life ever since. From the year of dance classes I took in preschool, to the one-woman performance of Wicked I put on for my stuffed animals in my childhood bedroom, to now having the means to travel to see my favorite shows and music artists, I cannot imagine a life without them.

As other artists may understand, I’ve never had a clear idea of the path my career would take. I’ve jumped at every opportunity in the arts that has come my way, leading to roles in art education, graphic design, research, customer service, and more. Inspired by the many phenomenal teachers I had growing up, I first set out to become a K-12 art teacher. As I immersed myself in the field through the art education program at the University of Kentucky (UK), I quickly grew discouraged by the treatment of educators and the lack of funding and opportunities for students in the arts. I realized I could have a greater impact on my community and more latitude to explore my varied interests if I took a different route, which is what led me to arts administration. I graduated from UK in 2024 with a BA in studio art, and am now in the process of earning my MA in arts administration. Education remains a core facet of my identity and values, and my goal is to work for an organization that advances art education in Kentucky.

I currently work as a teaching assistant for the Department of Arts Administration at UK, where I help facilitate marketing and design classes for undergraduate students. During the summer, I work for the Kentucky Governor’s School for the Arts, where I have the privilege of mentoring some of Kentucky’s best young visual artists. The talent, kindness, and creativity displayed by my students have given me great hope for the future of the Commonwealth and have reaffirmed my commitment to making the arts accessible for everyone. Outside of my work and education, I am continually developing my own artistic practice, especially in drawing, painting, and fiber arts.

My affinity for visual art started at a very young age and was fostered by a number of caring family members, educators, and friends who I could not have made it this far without. If you’re reading this, you’re one of those supporters! Thanks for checking out my art, and be sure to follow me on social media if you’d like to stay updated on my work!
